Day 9 - 28th May - Penrith to Moffat

Day 9 was a straight forward route from Penrith to Moffat.  There were no issues with navigation and it was mostly flat.

A stiff wind out of Penrith was a bit of a shocker and took a while to get moving but as far as cycling 70 miles, goes, it was ok. Highlights were passing through home town of Carlisle and making a tour of past favourite city centre locations. Having passed through some iffy towns along the way, Carlisle has a lot going for it. There's the Howard Arms and Kings Head pubs which are both well established and a new pub called the Fat Gadgie.

Carlisle's established tourist attractions include the old town hall, cathedral and castle.
There are umpteen picturesque cricket grounds, especially in Cumbria but Carlisle's  Edenside is up there with the best.

Today's route also passed my parent's house and gave  easy access to the Eden crossing, Rockliffe and  to the Scottish border.

The roads to Moffat were generally flat, quiet and wide and after a jewel of a find of 'Just Be' cafe in Lockerbie, rolled into the Moffat 5.30ish.

Buchan B&b provided a typical friendly Scottish welcome. Also added bonus of offer to wash kit and was also able to clean up bike chain etc and re-lube after plenty of grit and road dross from cycle-ways and roads collected over the last week.

Routine know well established for the evening- it's great to bin the now redundant mapping pages and recce tomorrow's weather, distance, elevation and accommodation.
