Day 7 - 26th May - Pickmere to Forton

The day was around 63 miles (first part of route corrupted again on the bike GPS) which was slightly below the average of 70 miles/ day but proved pretty hard with the temperatures.

The journey into Leigh at the start of the day was fine but the rest was a constant battle negotiating traffic, junctions and city centre pedestrians.

Good to pass through the outer limits of Bolton where I studied civil engineering in the early 1990s.

It gave some good views of Rivington Pike and the Reebok Stadium. The abundance of Arkwrightesque corner shops always provided an outlet at college and they still remain and provided a need today given the weather.

It was a pleasant ride into Preston once the off road cycle path was located which eventually crossed the River Ribble close to the city centre.  Preston city centre was a navigational challenge due to likely city centre highway modifications, the high temperatures and definate onset of my fatigue.

The saviour was seeing a sign for the A6 and once through more traffic snarl ups at Broughton, it was regular garage stops for drinks before passing through Garstang and Forton. Good to reach the b&b in rural setting between Forton and Cockerham.

The accommodation was midway between two villages but the 25  minute walk was ideal in the evening and was time to plan for Day 8..........

The first part of the route had GPS problems again but the final 45 miles is available here.
