Day 1 - 20th May - Land's End to Wadebridge

The first night was at Penmorvah Bed and Breakfast on Alexandra Road which was a ten minute easy cycle from Penzance train station. It was a good start on the fundraising as two of guests handed some cash over at breakfast.

Lands End was just how I remembered it from 4 or 5 years ago, a tacky clip but at 9.45am was desolate too. Finger post photo duly taken and off I headed to Wadebridge.
The roads did undulate towards Penzance and sufficiently for one of the pannier holding screws to shear - unplanned event number one but was sorted through a temporary support using spare boot lace and more secured wuth the purchase of bungee chords at Hayle cycle shop.
The day's route largely followed Sustrans National Cycle Route 3, it's probably less climbing than a more scenic route along the coasts but apart from a couple of uncomfortable stretches on the A roads (notably A3075 past Healey's Cyder Farm) , avoided much of the Saturday traffic. It wasn't conducive to relaxed navigation cherry picking through estates but on balance it was preferential to more of the main roads and less climbing than the coasts too.

Fuelled through the day by bakery stop at Camborne and malt loafs every hour, Wadebridge was reached around 5 o'clock.
A summary of the day's route is shown below and a visual trace is available on "relive" by clicking on day 1's route....
