Day 13 - 1st June - Conon Bridge to Altnaharra

Day 13 from Conon  Bridge to Altnaharra was another great day for cycling - calm weather, smooth surface roads, little traffic and open countryside all made for a top day.
Not for the first time, it was a stiff climb to start the day and today's eventually took me to Struie Hill. The gradients were relatively shallow and with a slight following breeze, made for good progress despite the constant uphill.

Views opened to both the Cromarty Firth and Dornoch Firth before reaching Struie Hill. All height was then lost in an uncomfortably short space of time to reach sea level at Ardgay.

The day's halfway mark was Bonar Bridge and I was thankful that one of the few open commercial premises was a cafe. NCN Route 1 was followed for the remainder of the day. The route passed the Falls of Shin - no leaping salmon today and the journey continued on a gradual and, thankfully, barely noticeable climb north.

The Crask Inn is located in the middle of nowhere and given that the pub is only 8 miles to the day's destination, a pint of Black Isle ale was bought and it was just unreal gazing out over mile upon mile of landscape.
Cue more empty rolling roads and a long descent to Altnaharra. Check out the tarmac too.....

Today's route on Relive is here.
