Day 11 - 30th May - Kinross to Newtonmore

Day 11 was 87 miles and the longest leg of the challenge.

Kinross was left in rain and remained showery for most of the day. The first half of the ride was a mixture of flattish roads alongside the River Tay through Perth and short, sharp climbs and descents similar to Devon. Lunch was taken at a cyclist's café/shop in Pitlochry which was just on half way.

The afternoon was headlined by Drumochter Pass which is the highest location on the whole route. The climb to Drumochter was perfectly achievable gradient wise but the ascent faced a serious headwind funnelled down the valley which slowed progress to 5 or 6 mph at times. For a good part of the climb I had thoughts of a likely finish time after 7.30pm if the headwind persisted.

However, after reaching the summit and starting to descend the Spey valley, the wind was also funnelled as a tailwind and made for a rapid last 15 miles to the B&B by 6 o'clock.
