Day 3 - 22nd May - Okehampton to Glastonbury

Day 3 was a long day and needed to be after the relatively shorter first two days. It started with same old rolling hills as per yesterday which lasted to Crediton.....
and then eased off slightly to Tiverton. Thereafter, it was mostly Sustrans cycle route 3 along the canal side before a final flat exposed 16 miles into Glastonbury.

The highlights were:
1 Thorverton (definitely the most picturesque village passed through in the south-west) and its Berry Dairy Village Store and friendly resident and owner. Well recommended for visitors.
2 Esso garage at Tiverton on the A396 - Michael and Dan of "Davis&Parson" thanks for the donations.

3 Sustrans route 3 along the canal paths - generally great given dry weather and good to be away from traffic. The following photos demonstrate the weather and route perfectly......
4 Maunsell Lock Tea Room - at the time I was getting low on fuel and for those who've seen 'Withnail and I', I was in need of Mrs Blenberhasset's tea room. The steward at Somerset's cricket match recommended the venue so I headed there. It was also slightly off the route so added a few miles to the planned journey but was worth it.......

5 Ten minutes or so watching Somerset in action at Taunton.
6 getting 85 miles in the bag.

Frustrating that the Garmin bike computer managed to lose the day's so the Strava route details shown above is the intended route - the tea room added 5 miles to the journey The headlines were 85 miles, 3500 feet of climbing, left at 8.50, got in just after 6 and empty of energy. The last 16 miles after the tea room were mostly flat but it cooled and had a strong crosswind. It was a good reminder that honeymoon period on the ride was over and time to knuckle down.
